About

Taylor Roberston
President

Hello, my name is Taylor and I am a third-year Art History major. I had a love of art ever since I took AP Art History in high school, however, I was unsure whether to choose art history as my major. When I found AHUA, I found the people so inviting and fun that I found myself eagerly waiting for each meeting. AHUA gave me the confidence to stick with art history, and I am so glad I did.

Aside from AHUA, I work as a researcher at an art and mural-making center in Venice called SPARC where I work on the extension of the Great Wall of Los Angeles. And in my free time I read, listen to my vinyl collection, shoot film photography, and screenprint posters and clothing.

As President, I hope to expose more people to our club and art history. I want to create an environment where art lovers can find a group of people they connect with, just as I did when I found AHUA. I look forward to hanging out with everyone at our museum trips, meetings, and events!

Rachael Lee
Events Director

Hello all, my name is Rachael and I will be your Events Director for the 2023-24 school year! I am a Korean Literature and Culture and Language Science double major. The Arts and the Humanities has always been a deep passion of mine. Culture and art are intersectional, they shape and change each other in so many ways. AHUA is a special place in which I can deepen, and share my love for art with others.

As Events Director, my responsibilities are to plan different events throughout the year that promote our love for art history, and also the yearly art exhibition. I will work hard to cultivate a safe space for everybody, regardless of identity, to share and dive deeper into their curiosity about art and creativity.

Michelle Weon
Secretary

Hello! My name is Michelle, the Secretary for AHUA 2023-24. I’m a third-year soon-to-be Cognitive Sciences B.S. and Art History B.A double major.

Why do I pursue art history? I refer to a passage from Embodied Meanings (1994) by Arthur C. Danto, one of my inspiring art critics and philosophers, as the spokesman for my guiding ethos: “[The task of a critic] is twofold: to identify what [a] work means and then to show how that meaning is embodied in the work… But until those meanings are recaptured, modes of their embodiment remain opaque, and the works in question are alien to us, as are many opaque artifacts we know to be meaningful but whose meaning we cannot grasp… At the very least, it seems to me, a critic must make plain–or as plain as the work allows–what meaning it has and what meaning the reader who experiences it as intended is supposed to have, and hence what mutual transformation of person and object constitutes the successful artistic experience.”

As Secretary of AHUA, I am responsible for anything related to club communication. I will be contributing to AHUA’s email correspondences, newsletters, weekly meeting presentations, museum trip records, and AHUA website. This year, I hope to listen carefully to voices around campus, remembering their stories and associated objects. I wish to help each other spark visions of who we can be, who we can aspire to become.

Myra McCants
Historian

Hi! My name is Myra (she/her), and I'm thrilled to be your Historian for 2023-2024! I'm a third-year Art History B.A. and Biological Sciences B.S. double major.

I started diving into the world of art history out of pure curiosity during the pandemic, so when I stumbled upon the AHUA booth at AIF during my first year, I immediately knew I found something special and AHUA exceeded my expectations. The community was welcoming, and I fell in love with the routine of attending weekly meetings, traveling to museums together on weekends, and organizing our annual art exhibition! I have made some great friends and fun memories through this club, and I can’t wait to make more memories with all of you!

As Historian of AHUA, I channel my skills as a photographer to capture memorable club moments. Along with my board members, I wish to foster an environment, open to all majors, where we can connect and share our passion for art as well as make memories through museum trips, on-campus exhibitions, and more!

In my free time, I enjoy drawing, painting, cooking, trying new food spots (always looking for recs), and playing board games or going to concerts with my friends!
